Default New character creation mode: devotion

The name is unimportant... you can create PvP, PvE and Devotion... Devotion characters come with a host of advantages and 4 disadvantages

Advantages

00) max -40 dp (and -10 per death)
00) max +15 morale
00) +10% life
00) +10% energy
00) -25% fee for all armors
00) special areas available only to this character
00) special armors reserved for only this type of character
00) extra attribute points (enough to max out 3 attributes fully)

The Disadvantages

00) Primary class only, no secondary class available (hence, a devoted necro, devoted ele, etc.)
00) The same "too soon after combat" restriction to identifying and salvaging is also applied to mapping
00) You cannot map while dead and waiting for a resurrection
00) If you die without a player resurrection (ie. res at the shrine or whole party dies) your character is dead and no longer playable. For you, there is no resurrection shrine. This does not include instances of a mission-critical npc dieing which results in the whole party's death, but refers only to when you are taken down by an enemy

Think of the coolness of having an ascended player that has never died! Please, no mentions of D2's hardcore, pretty retarded to off a good idea because someone else has also done it (do believe that mages, ele's, necros and in fact 99% of the game has already been done).

I would totally create a character for this mode. And those who used a character for this mode would become very skilled because they would have no room for error in dieing. You can't rely on resses cuz what if the only ones who have a ressurection skill are also dead?

291 Attributes? No thanks.

I like this idea, a reward for using only one set of attributes (as I usually end up doing).

We do not need this to be like Diablo II... God, it was a good game but far too hacked with many design flaws to be a role-model for other games. Leave the totally unoriginal and clearly copied ideas to the people who thought of them. And as for this being useable for PvP, it's really stupid. Let's make a character and go to a place I'll die for sure and lose all my work! Yay!

How can you not? Hardcore players is a very distinct quality of Diablo, not many other games do it. And you can't compare this rarely used idea to something as general as classes. That's like saying McDonald's can use Burger King's secret sauce because they both make hamburgers...

Otherwise, it's a pretty good idea. I like some of the ideas that I didn't specifically comment on, and I would enjoy a character of this type, after some severe tweaking of this proposed idea.

Honestly, I'd like to see a "Hardcore" character creation. That would bring a whole new level of difficulty to the PvE side of the game. In PvP, I simply couldn't see this being useable. Since we have a PvP only option, having a PvE only option would be nice. The OP might have had his own ideas of how to implement this, but naturally those wouldn't be set in stone.

I agree, when the OP mentioned the idea the only game I could think of was D2, so I agree with Zell here and say "how can you not mention the only game I can think of that has this?" D2 was terrible flawed as a game and alllowed for more hacks than I care to mention... even in the supposed "closed" servers. As an overall game it is a poor role model, although some of the ideas created their did have merit and ANet shouldn't feel bad able extrapolating on them and bringing them here.

To Zell: Actually Burger King made a sandwich called the "Big King" which was thier version of the Big Mac... the only really difference was they took out te bread in the middle :P

The overall idea the OP proposes is an interesting one, but the details would have to be changed a bit. IF ANet decided to do this, I'd give it a shot
